My Why

A couple of years ago I cooked my shoulder, and last year I had shoulder reconstruction surgery.

It was one of those moments in life where everything slows down whether you like it or not. Recovery was long, uncomfortable, and honestly… pretty bloody gnarly really.

But it also gave me something unexpected: clarity.

I was able to think about the things that matter,

About how I was living.

About what actually makes life feel good.

And about how easy it is to slip into routines and time simply disappears.

I thought about regrets, lost opportunities, and how nothing is promised to us.

We fall into work, responsibilities, life admin… on repeat.

Somewhere along the way, fun and adventure starts to feel like something that belongs to other people — fitter people, braver people, people with more friends, more time.

But the truth is, I’ve learned something really important over the last few years.

Joy isn’t something that just happens. You have to go looking for it.

For me, that discovery happened on a bike.

Not in a competitive, hardcore way — but in a fun, slightly messy, laugh, explore, try something or somewhere new kind of way.

I worked out that it wasn’t just about me enjoying riding (let’s be honest, being on a bike is actually wonderful), but with other women who were also figuring it out.

Women who weren’t trying to prove anything.

Women who just wanted to get outside, have fun, and feel alive again.

The most wonderful part has been introducing woman to the trails, watching them come alive, build confidence and skills, and trust me to help them grow.

And it changed something in me.

I saw how powerful it was when women had a supportive space to try something new, build confidence, and share an adventure together.

That’s where the idea for Joy Adventure Club began.

Because I kept thinking:

What if more women had access to this?

Not just the riding — but the feeling.

Freedom.

Fun.

Fresh air.

New friendships.

Adventure.

The simple joy of doing something just because it makes you smile.

I realised it wasn’t just something I wanted in my life.

It was something I wanted to help create for other women too

That’s the HEART of Joy Adventure Club.

xx
